Yesterday, the ATM celebrated its fortieth birthday quietly.

A few folks did raise a glass however.

Wired Magazine, for example, published this wonderful chart (doubleclick to see a big version):

By 1983, we had TV ads that were really doing a good job of persuading us to use these new fangled machines of course:
