Shaping the future of finance

The end of COVID? My first physical conference starts on July 12

From July 12, I will be chairing FinTech Week London. It's my first time leaving home since February 2020, and a major moment as it's also the first physical conference on FinTech that I've seen so far (Money 2020 and more to come). FinTechWeek London takes place from July 12-16 both in London and streaming live worldwide. Here's the low-down:

During the last year, we have seen an extraordinary move from physical to digital, as evidenced in every part of the economy from airlines to online. In finance, we can see how this has changed when you consider the rise of cryptocurrency values from bitcoin to ethereum to dogecoin. This is a bigger and deeper change than anyone imagined and heralds a new world order. FinTech Week London will delve deep into what is that new world order and how it works. From nascent technologies like quantum and AI to core systems changes in the form of cloud and 'as-a-service' structures, this week will cover it all. And, as a first physical event that I've been involved with for a year, it will be nice to have a chance to network, meet and talk physically and digitally once more.

I'm hosting and chairing the week, with speakers including:

  • Ron Kalifa, Network International
  • Lord Chris Holmes MBE
  • Michael Lowers, Huawei
  • Theodora (Theo) Lau, Unconventional Ventures
  • Anna Irrera, Reuters
  • Rita Liu, Mode Global Holdings
  • Alex Marsh, Klarna
  • Dan Morgan, Plaid
  • Suresh Viswanathan, TSB
  • Clare Whitehead, Barclays
  • Helen Child, Open Banking Excellence
  • Simon Taylor, 11:FS
  • Marcus Treacher, ClearBank
  • Joy Macknight, The Banker
  • Symmie Swil, Starling Bank

FinTech Week London, July 12-16

The program is organised into four key topics:

  • Next Big Things in FinTech
  • Open Banking and Banking-as-a-Service
  • Big Tech and Big Banks: Coopetition
  • Digital Identity

The “Next Big Things in FinTech” stream will focus on new and emerging developments within the fintech market. An increasing number of verticals, including wealth tech, insurtech, blockchain, and more, show significant potential for new products and services. Martin Boyd of FIS joins David Brear, the CEO of challenger digital banking consultancy 11:FS, and Susanne Chishti, the CEO of FINTECH Circle as speakers.

The second segment will focus on “Open Banking and Banking-as-a-Service.” Banks have undergone significant changes over recent years, forcing traditional banks to transform their customer services models to keep up with the emerging competition from challengers. Adi Engel, Chief Marketing Officer of small business management platform vcita, is one of the speakers leading the open banking stream, and is joined by Sophie Guibaud, Chief Growth Officer at OpenPayd, and Imran Gulamhuseinwala, Implementation Trustee for the Open Banking Implementation Entity.

The conference’s “Big Tech and Big Banks: Coopetition” track will explore how tech giants and startups are increasingly stepping into finance, how neobanks are threatening the norm for traditional banks, and global developments in fintech. Dr. Leda Glyptis, Chief Client Officer at 10x Future Technologies, is joined by Lord Chris Holmes, MBE, a member of the UK Lords Select Committee on Science and Technology, and Theodora Lau, the founder of Unconventional Ventures.

There will also be a fourth stream under the banner of “Digital Identity,” an increasing area of focus for banks and payment providers. This stream is moderated by Dave Birch, Global Ambassador at Consult Hyperion, and speakers include John Abbott with digital identity and biometrics firm Yoti.

For a full list of speakers and to register just go to the event website and if you register before end of June 30 tickets you can get 15% off the digital and physical tickets!
