The next meeting of the FSClub in Ireland is on 25th February, and will focus upon how Europe's infrastructural changes impact the Irish economy and banks.

Reviewing the situation will be Mr. Gilbert Lichter, Secretary General of the Euro Banking Association (EBA)
and Pat Mc Loughlin, Chief Executive of the Irish Payments Services Organisation (IPSO).

How do SEPA credit transfers and direct debits infrastructural changes impact the Irish economy?

Is Ireland more tightly coupled with Europe as a result, or is it a loose coupling?

And what happens to bilateral clearing and the resultant costs?

Will Irish payments be more efficient and will the Irish economy be more competitive?

In a wide ranging discussion around these themes, we are delighted to host leading luminaries of the European theatre to highlight exactly what these changes mean to Ireland and Irish Banks.

Gilbert Lichter, Secretary General, EBA.
The Euro Banking Association plays a major role in the financial industry as a developer of European payment infrastructures. Cost-effective and efficient euro clearing systems are core activities of the association and have led to the creation of Europe's leading private large-value clearing system EURO1, the low-value payment system STEP1 and the first Pan-European ACH, STEP2.

Pat Mc Loughlin, Chief Executive, IPSO
The Irish Payments Services Organisation is charged with modernising the Irish payments infrastructure. Specifically he faces the challenge of reducing the use of inefficient and costly systems such as cash and cheques which drain the economy and negatively impact national competitiveness.
