The man voted by GQ magazine as more powerful than Alastair Darling, our Chancellor, is Robert Peston. Peston has been the BBC man who broke the Northern Rock story, and almost every hot banking story since. Today, he sat with other journo's in front of the House of Commons Treasury Select Committee and this time it's him and his chums in the hot seat.
In the best part of the exchange, politico's asked jounro where he got his inside track in the Treasury to break the Northern Rock story … Mr. Peston was not saying.
I have my sources, he bleats, and they're everywhere.
You can watch the exchange or read about it in a big write up on the BBC website, where news reporters now make news, and also on lots of other news sites including the Grauniad (blow by blow account), the Times (considered), the International Herald Tribune (balanced) and more.
Well worth a look if, for no other reason than seeing Mr. Peston in action on the other side of the debate.
