For those who are payments oriented or payments oriental, SIBOS takes place next week in Hong Kong. For those who are going, here's a nice little video to wet your appetite:
For those who aren't going, don't worry. You'll get to read all about it with daily updates on the Finanser.
Oh yes, SIBOS, if you're not aware, is the largest banking conference organised for bankers by bankers. The host organisation is SWIFT, the
interbank messaging system that represents a community of banks
globally. Here's a taste of what happened last year with SIBOS starting the day that Lehman Brothers collapsed.
That was some conference with 6,000 bankers flying into Vienna and about 2,000 flying out on the first plane available in case their bank went bust.
On Monday, Lehmans disappeared, on Tuesday Merrill Lynch, on Wednesday HBOS ... the system was melting down faster than the polar ice caps.
If anyone wants to relive those days and refresh their memory of what happened at SIBOS Vienna, here's the blog from 2008 and you can also see the SIBOS YouTube channel if interested.
SIBOS last year was a week of shock and awe.
I'm sure this year will be much calmer.
I'm sure.
In fact, speaking of calm waters, you may be interested to know that Finanser sponsor, Vocalink, will be entertaining attendees with the world's youngest round-the-world yachtsman Mike Perham.
Mike set the record
for being the youngest person ever to single-handedly circumnavigate
the globe, and will be their guest at two key events next week:
Drinks Reception on Monday 14th September at 13:30 on their stand 3E05
Launch of Faster Payments Research on Tuesday 15th September at 17:00 on their stand 3E05
