At the end of every year I list the top 10 blog posts from The Finanser, to show what’s been of most interest. Bearing in mind there are over 200 posts a year, these are the ones that really stand out. Like most years, this year's list includes three guest entries - as I pick guest articles based upon their quality, this does not surprise me. However this year, breaking with tradition, I've changed the list to be the Top 11 things that stand out, in keeping with the 11:FS spirit. So, here we go.
At Number 11 is a September post that pooh-pooh's the idea that banks talk about a lot:
We’re just a technology company that happens to have a banking licence
In at Number 10, from March is a blog about the big news this year – the release of Apple’s credit card in partnership with Goldman Sachs. The card generated a $10 billion line of credit in just one month. Here’s all you need to know about it.
Everything you need to know about Apple’s new credit card
At Number 9, from August, is a humorous piece about the challenge of getting any innovative ideas through the C-level of a bank.
Rising to Number 8 is another August item, where I provide my response to a piece written by Ron Shevlin about the concept that:
Customers don’t want digital banking
Here we are at Number 7 heaven, and it’s my April 1st completely made up Fool’s Joke about the idea that Visa partnered with Alipay to roll out QR code payments worldwide.
Alipay and Visa announce global QR code venture
maybe this wasn’t such a joke?
Sneaking in to Number 6 is a view posted in May about the concept that FinTech is going through phases and, when it finally grows up, we won’t even bother mentioning it.
Five phases of FinTech (2005-2027) https://finansernextjs.wpengine.com/2019/05/five-phases-of-fintech-2005-2027/
At Number 5, from June, is an argument that rails against the commonly held view amongst big banks that:
Challenger banks don’t matter as they’re not a primary account
Funnily enough, at Number 4 from July, is a related view that builds on Number 5 and talks about:
At Number 3 is a post from October. As there’s nothing like a provocative title so, when I posted this, it got real clickbait:
Is Revolut leading a FinTech revolution … or destroying it?
Near the top spot but at Number 2 is our third August post, this one a guest post from Taylor Ryan, CMO at Valuer.ai.
The best FinTech startups in Europe
And finally, at NUMBER ONE, is a February post from another guest, Linus Beliunas, reviewing the:
39 FinTech Unicorns Valued at $147.37 billion
It’s been quite a year. Here’s to a prosperous 2020.
