Time is money

I got a link to a bunch of Albert Einstein quotes the other day, one of which was:

It made me think. Oh dear. Don’t make me think.

Over the past year and a half, I find time is relative. It’s my theory of relativity. Sometimes I wake up at 1:00 in the morning having gone to bed the previous night at 7:00 for no particular reason. I watch a movie and go back to bed. Time. It’s just a fiction.

I sit in my office looking out of the window wondering how the day will unfold. It’s just another day. Sure there’s Zoom and telephone calls, writing and blogging but, as I look out the window, I’m reminded of another quote. This time from Leo Tolstoy:

“The two most powerful warriors are patience and time.”

How true.

I’ve always been impatient. I want it and I want it now. I want it all and I want it NOW!

No. The older you get the more you learn the importance of time. Let time take its time … but time waits for no one, right?

Does it? Not really. Time is time. We invented it. Time can pass. Timing is the key. Move at the right time. Sometimes that’s a flash trade – trade a nanosecond faster than the other guy and you win the deal; sometimes it’s just a trade – we missed the moment.

One of my favourite movies is Sliding Doors. Reason? I always look back and realise there was one second in my life where everything could have been different. What would have happened if I had said yes? What would have happened if I had boarded that train? What would have happened if I hadn’t jumped in the car that day? What would have happened if …

You can’t spend your life looking back on time or at what would have happened if … time moves on.

“Better three hours too soon than a minute too late.”

Oh, Mr. Shakespeare. How wise were you? Yes, I would always rather be premature than overdue. It is why I am always early to meetings and often last to leave. I like to soak up the moment and know where I have been. Live in the moment and absorb the reality.

I could go on and on and on, wasting your time reading about my musings about time. But I’ll leave you with this. Many of you know I’m a Bowie fan and Bowie wrote a song about time. It was shocking at the time for using a swear word we’re not allow to use in public (go check it out). It was written during his William Burroughs phase, where lyrics collided based upon cut-up words, so it doesn’t make much sense … or does it?
