Shaping the future of finance

“Intelligent Bank” is officially launched

I spent last week in China with Huawei. It was fantastic and, finally, it gave me the chance to announce and release my new book Intelligent Bank. Regular blog readers will know that I've been talking about this as the third fintech revolution but I could not officially tell everyone that it was released until today! Here is the press release:

Chris Skinner Launches Intelligent Bank at Huawei Intelligent Finance Summit

[Shanghai, China, May 20, 2026]

The Huawei Intelligent Finance Summit 2026 (HiFS 2026), themed "Hello Fintelligent World: Beyond Digital, Advance to Agentic Banking," opened today [May 20] at Huawei's Lianqiu Lake campus in Shanghai. The event brought together over 800 representatives from financial institutions across more than 60 countries and regions, along with over 70 industry partners. At the summit, Chris Skinner, one of the world's most influential voices in financial innovation, officially launched his new book, Intelligent Bank. This release marks a significant moment for the global banking community, introducing a bold and timely perspective on the future of financial services as the industry enters its third major technological revolution.

Rather than focusing on AI hype or the latest digital interface, Intelligent Bank argues that true transformation begins with two long-neglected foundations: trust in identity and trust in data. Skinner highlights how banks continue to struggle with fragmented systems, duplicated records, and rising threats from deepfakes and impersonation. He argues that without reliable identity and clean, connected data, no amount of AI can make a bank genuinely intelligent.

Once these fundamentals are rebuilt, banks can unlock real-time decisioning, proactive services, and financial experiences that operate seamlessly in the background of everyday life. The book provides a clear blueprint for institutions to modernize these foundations and position themselves for the next generation of financial innovation. As Skinner puts it, Intelligent Bank shows that the next generation of banking begins with trusted identity and connected data—amidst a third major technological revolution, where only the best will survive.

Commenting on the book, Jason Cao, CEO of Huawei Digital Finance, emphasized that the industry must now move beyond simply "going digital" to becoming truly intelligent—connecting data, decisions, and customer behavior into a unified, continuously learning system. He noted that intelligent banks proactively serve customers based on real-time signals, a feature that requires strong engineering capability at scale. Cao added that Huawei is working closely with institutions worldwide to turn this vision into operational reality.
